Abortion Care for Colorado Residents

Colorado is one of the most protective states in the country for reproductive freedom. Still, living in Colorado doesn’t always mean you have easy access to care.

With many counties lacking a local provider, traveling across the state can be a significant hurdle. Whether you’re coming from the Western Slope, the High Peaks, or the Eastern Plains, we’re here for you.

At Boulder Valley Health Center (BVHC), we have been a trusted cornerstone of Colorado reproductive healthcare for over 50 years.

Located in Boulder, our clinic  serves as a high-authority regional access point, providing private, compassionate and respectful abortion care to patients from every corner of the state.

Modern, Patient-Centered Care for Coloradans

We believe your zip code should not dictate your access to high-quality abortion care. For patients traveling from outside the Boulder area or the Front Range, we offer care models to reduce unnecessary visits while maintaining medical safety and personalized support.

For many patients, Telehealth appointments are the most convenient way to begin care through initial conversations with our clinic team.

  • Telehealth Options Counseling: We offer secure telehealth appointments for options counseling, medical history review, and questions about abortion care. These visits allow portions of your intake process to be completed in advance. This can help streamline your visit once you arrive at our abortion clinic in Boulder.
  • Efficient In-Clinic Care: While abortion procedures and medications are provided in-clinic only, telehealth counseling and pre-visit coordination may allow portions of your appointment to be completed in advance. This can help ensure your time at our Boulder clinic is as short and efficient as possible.

Note: To participate in a telehealth visit, you MUST be physically located within the state of Colorado during your appointment. All abortion care is provided in person at our clinic in Boulder.

Colorado’s Protective Laws: Your Rights

In Colorado, your right to choose is a fundamental right protected by the state constitution.

  • No Gestational Limits: Colorado does not have a ban on abortion at a specific week of pregnancy, allowing you and your doctor to make the best decision for you.
  • Confidentiality & Safety: We operate under robust “shield laws” that protect your medical privacy. Furthermore, Colorado law ensures safe access to clinics, protecting patients from harassment or obstruction.
  • Private Insurance Coverage: Most private insurance plans in Colorado are required to cover abortion care. Our team can help you navigate your benefits to see if your procedure is covered.
  • Medicaid Coverage: Starting in 2026, under Colorado law, abortion care has been added to the list of services that Medicaid (Health First Colorado) and related public insurance programs cover — including regular Medicaid, the Cover All Coloradans program, Emergency Medicaid, and CHIP/CHP+
    • This means people enrolled in these public programs can have abortion procedures covered without deductibles, copays, or coinsurance, and providers are reimbursed with state funds regardless of the reason for the abortion.
    • The change stems from updates to state law following voter approval of Amendment 79 and implementing legislation (SB25-183).
